Exercise #557

Exercise #557: Craft
Posted  2/7/14

Time for the last step in our journey, where we talk about the five Cs that can help you self-check your story for marketability. Every story - to be a complete tale - needs the five Cs.

The fifth C is Conclusion.

Finish your tale. Stories may “finish” by not finishing, leaving some conclusions up to the reader, but most wrap up all the loose ends.

For this exercise, review your work from Exercise #552. You may choose to do a rewrite or simply to finish your story. Either way, for this exercise, submit one solid piece that shows us your character, your climate, your conflict and your conclusion, keeping in mind that continuity is a C also.

Please note the much larger word limit, as this SUB should be a complete story. You may still have to do some cutting. Consider sending your tale off to a market once it’s done. You never know!

Critiquers, allow plenty of time to critique these. They may be much longer than the norm for Desk Drawer, and your author may have a market in mind for this complete story. Along with the usual technical critique, you might answer these questions:
     * Were you satisfied with the resolution? Why or why not?
     * Was this piece helpful to you as a writer? Why or why not?

Word limit: 3000
Please use the subject line
       SUB: Exercise #557/yourname
