Exercise #49

Exercise #49: Craft
Posted 4/2/04

Today we're going to play with characterization. We've all read a book and promptly hated the villain or loved the protagonist. What makes that happen? Sometimes it's what we relate to in the character -- whether it be good points or bad ones, we recognize them and see them in ourselves, our loved ones, or people we don't like much.

Sometimes it's purely in how the author portrays them.

For this exercise, write a descriptive piece (a whole story is not required) designed to introduce us to one character, and make us love or hate them.
